Steve Campbell appointed pioneer leader in montenegro - august 2021
Steve and Laura from Virginia USA have been serving in Podgorica Montenegro since 2012. They've been working to encourage and equip a local congregation, specifically to help them with discipleship. Both their daughters, Ruth and Esther, are fluent in the Montenegrin language and attend the local school and see the need for their friends to know Jesus.
Steve shares his Freedom in Christ journey, 'My first training and Freedom appointment was in the late 90s in the US after which I used the FIC material with some of my students. When we first came to Montenegro in 2008-2009, I brought the material and offered it as a tool but at that time it was not received. When we returned in 2012, I had the material available but it wasn't until 2015 that I actually got to use it in my church. I walked a friend through the material who was in a deep bondage with alcohol. He agreed to go through it with myself and other leaders of the church which was a great opportunity to expose the leadership to it. As an elder, I was then able to develop a discipleship course for the church that included the Steps to Freedom.
Not long after that we attended a Freedom in Christ seminar in Albania and made contact with Peter Maris. I signed up for Transform 2019 and also at that time got permission to begin translating the material into Montenegrin. Just a few weeks ago, I had a chat with a friend about the Steps to Freedom, he and his wife are planning to go as missionaries to the coast here in Montenegro. I'll teach them how to use the Steps to Freedom to give them another tool for their work and then next year they'll do Transform. Following on from that I've been talking with Peter and agreed to do Pioneer work for Freedom In Christ here in Montenegro.'
